(7 photos of a 1964 Pace Car White Mustang Indianapolis Pace Car Hardtop) This is a 1964 Mustang Indianapolis Pace Car hardtop. This is one of about 185 replicas that were sold in 1964 to the public. Not just any dealer could sell them though. They had to compete for them! The competition, called "Checkered Flag" and "Green Flag" contests, were based on the dealer's sales performance prior to the introduction of the Mustang in April of 1964. The top five dealerships in each district received a Pace Car replica. This car was won by Bennett Ford in Salt Lake City, Utah. The pace cars are all sequentially numbered (VIN) between 111500-126000. They have the same dataplate codes; 65A=hardtop, C=Pace Car White paint, 42=white & blue interior. Many were sold to customers with the stripes and lettering removed. Thirty-seven Wimbledon White 1964 Mustang Pace Car convertibles were created for the actual Indianapolis 500 race. Three of them were modified to be actual pace cars (4-speed transmission, tuned 289ci engines, lowered suspension, and speed rated tires). Another thirty-five convertibles with red, white, or blue interiors were used as Dignitary Cars. They were auctioned to dealerships and sold to the public after the race event.

(17 photos of a 1964 Pace Car White Mustang Indianapolis Pace Car Convertible) This is an original official 1964 Mustang Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Replica. It's a Ford built replica of the one that actually paced the race. This is one of about 40 convertibles and about 190 hardtops built by Ford back in 1964. The convertibles were used as Dignitary (parade) cars at the race, then auctioned off to the dealerships. The hardtops were given straight to dealers. Of all the convertibles, only very few remain. This car has its original 210hp (at 4400rpm), 289 cubic inch, 4 barrel, V8 engine.

(8 photos of a 1964 Pace Car White Mustang Indianapolis Pace Car Hardtop) This is a 1964 Mustang Indianapolis Pace Car. It's one of about 190 hardtop replicas built for sale to the public. They were all built the same: special Pace Car White paint, blue stripes, and white/blue interiors. All of the Pace Cars are sequentially numbered (VIN) between 111500-126000.

(6 photos of a 1964 Pace Car White Mustang Indianapolis Pace Car Convertible) This is the real deal. It's the actual White 1964 Mustang convertible that paced the Indianapolis 500 race. There was two others built especially for pacing the race (VIN 5F08F100240 and 5F08F100242). The others have yet to be found. These three Mustangs were modified by Holman-Moody with modified 289ci V-8 engines (originally they had stock 260s), lowered/stiffened suspension, grab bars (back seat side panels), two-way radios, and flag mounts. This one was listed on eBay with a reserve of $1,099,000.00

(2 photos of a 1964 Wimbledon White Mustang Indianapolis Pace Car Convertible) There were thirty-five 1964 Indy Pace Car convertibles used as Dignitary Cars for the race. They were built with red, white, or blue interiors. They were auctioned to dealerships and sold to the public after the race event. They were also known as festival cars, probably because they circled the track at the 500 Festival Open Invitation - a PGA Tour event in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1964. A couple are known to still exist today.

(4 photos of a 2012 Performance White Mustang GT Pace Car Coupe) Check out this Performance White Mustang GT Kentucky Speedway Pace Car coupe. Only 3 coupes where made. This one has a manual transmission and the 5.0L V8 engine. The owner did some research. This is what he found, "There were 46 cars made by Ford, I believe sequential VIN numbers, with 43 being convertibles and 3 coupes (fastbacks). I own #3 of 46 which is a fastback that was purchased new from Paul Miller Ford Lexington Kentucky. The 43 convertibles were for parade laps only. The 3 fastbacks were actual pace cars with strobe lights and light bar. My car was, according to Officials at Kentucky Speedway, a 'dummy' pace car. It was completely set up as a pace car but never used to pace the race. It was the first fastback that they received and was used in the promotional pictures. I know #1 was a convertible that went to Barrett Jackson. I have #3 in Ohio and I know #4, which is a fastback, was in Indiana. Others I have traced are all over and all are convertibles. I have tried to verify sequential VIN numbers with no success. However I did trace a dozen cars and they all fall within a range of 46 sequential VIN numbers. Since the inaugural race was in July 2011 these Mustangs were early 2012 models."
