Steve McQueen drove a Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT fastback in the movie Bullitt. This one is an original code-R Highland Green Mustang, with code 2A black interior, date code 29C March 29th 1968 build, ordered by code-71 Los Angeles district, code-2 rear end with 2.79 gears, and a code-W C-4 automatic.

If you haven't, you better go out and get the movie and watch it. The movie has the best car chase scenes ever filmed. The scene featured this Mustang chasing two hit-men in a black 1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440 Magnum. It was 9 minutes and 42 seconds long. Speeds exceeded 110 mph and Steve McQueen did most of the actual driving!


(3 photos of a 1968 Highland Green Mustang Bullitt Fastback) Long thought gone, Ralph Garcia, Jr. and Hugo Sanchez (in 2016) happened across one of the two Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT 390 fastbacks used in the 1968 Movie called Bullitt. They were looking for fastbacks to turn into Eleanor replicas when then noticed some odd features of this wrecked fastback. It was verified as one of the two Bullitt Mustangs and the story was released to the public in March of 2017.

Ford had a Bullitt optioned 2001 Mustang which was based on the 1968 fastback driven by Steve McQueen in the detective movie Bullitt. Bullitt modifications included unique side scoops, 17-inch American Racing aluminum wheels, a lowered suspension, modified C-pillars, special quarter panel molding, rocker panel moldings, brushed aluminum fuel cap door, special Bullitt badging, polished-rolled tailpipe, and came in Dark Highland Green and True Blue and Black. The original 1968 Mustang fastback used in the movie was Dark Highland Green. The movie's director called for speeds of 75 to 80 mph, but the cars (including the ones containing the cameras) reached speeds of over 110 mph on surface streets. Filming of the chase scene took three weeks, resulting in 9 minutes and 42 seconds of film. During the chase scene, the Charger loses six hubcaps and has different ones missing at different times. The production company was denied permission to film on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Hero cards started with racing drivers and their cars and have been extended to promote sport cars from various manufacturers. This one features the first year of the Bullitt Mustang feature car which commemorates the 1968 fastback driven by Steve McQueen in the detective movie Bullitt, the scenes of which are shown at the top. In 2001, Highland Green was reserved only for this model; although the 2001 Bullitt also came in Black and True Blue. The original 1968 movie Bullitt Mustang was painted in 1968 Highland Green.

He says that he is waiting on custom plates with car's new name - 'PoisnIV'. This was our featured Attitude Of The Week Mustang for the week starting 6-29-08. The Bullitt had many changes from the standard Mustang. They started with a GT Premium coupe and added the exclusive Highland Green paint (you could get black too), removed the spoiler, changed the upper front grille, changed to exclusive 18-inch Euro-Flange Bullitt wheels with a charcoal satin finish, and installed a 3.73 limited slip rear, dark gray brake calipers, a Bullitt faux fuel cap, and 3.5 inch exhaust tips. They also made changes under the hood and on the interior.
