This Wimbledon White 1965 Mustang Shelby GT-350R fastback was built for racing. It was not a street-legal car. This car was listed on Craigslist back in 2008. The photos are from the listing. At the time, it was the most expensive car ever listed on Craigslist. The listing said, "Car #530 one of only 35 Produced (1 of 25 still remaining). These "R" code GT 350's were unique in that they represented the first time an American auto manufacturer offered a strictly-for-racing model that was SCCA B/Production compliant. This vehicle was shipped to Lima Peru on 7/29/66 and raced extensively on the South American circuit. It was the South American Champion in it's class and the Peruvian National Champion in the late 60's. Brought back to the US in 1984, I have a copy of the original Shelby American Invoice Referring to SFM 5R530 as a 1966 GT 350 Race dated June 28, 1966. PLEASE NOTE: According to the Illustrated Shelby Buyers Guide by Lamm & Nicaise 1992 page 60 - "That last batch incidentally is often referred to as the 1966 R-models; they were assembled after regular 1965 GT350 production had shut down" "They were given serial numbers , though, and titled as 1965 models." # 5R530 is one of these vehicles."

Manville Smith just purchased this Wimbledon White 1966 Mustang convertible (April 20th, 2009) with only 40K on the odometer. This is our featured Attitude Of The Week for the week starting 5-24-09. Manville tells us more, "It is very original and highly optioned. The paint is original and the body/frame is straight and rust-free. The car was originally a Ford company car ('Transportation Services' DSO) and it still has the Ford Employee parking decal on the rear window. Original items include the C-code 289 V8, C4 automatic transmission, power steering, front disc brakes (rare on a non-GT), 2-speed wipers, luggage rack, 'Visibility Group' (remote controlled door mirror, day/night mirror), power convertible top, styled steel wheels, Ivy Gold and White Pony interior (all original) with console, AM Radio (works perfectly), wheel arch moldings, and rocker panel moldings. Non-original items are the air conditioning and the dual exhaust."

This is a real Wimbledon White 1966 Shelby GT-350 fastback. It is a "carry-over" car. The first 252 Shelby GT-350s for 1966 had 1965 Mustang bodies and 1965 Mustang serial number plates under their Shelby serial number plates. These "carry-over" cars had mostly 1965 features including standard Koni shocks and their engines where painted black instead of blue.

Wimbledon White 1966 Mustang with a Sprint Package 200 A, 120 hp (at 4400 rpm), 200 cubic inch, inline 6 cylinder engine. Due to the popular demand of the 289 cubic inch V8, 1966 Ford introduced the "Sprint Package 200" followed by what we think might have been an "A" for automatic transmission and "B" for manual. Ford was not very proud of this solution to the engine shortage so the Sprint Package threw in several standard option upgrades for free (center console, courtesy lights, side accent paint stripe color matched with the car's interior, and the deluxe wire-style wheel covers) and advertised the package as a "Limited Edition". The engine on all models came with decal that read "Mustang Powered Sprint 200" on the chrome air cleaner. Most books have the "A" Sprint option listed as Manual transmission and "B" as Automatic. This car is an "A" model according to the invoice and appears to have an automatic transmission although the data tag is hard to verify. We also have a 1968 Sprint with the same situation but the invoice clearly states Sprint "A" and automatic transmission.

Wimbledon White 1966 Mustang hardtop owned by Dani Joyce from Australia. This is an awesome shot! It was our featured Attitude Of The Week for the week starting August 28, 2011. Dani tells us, "This a very original unrestored 66 coupe. It was built in San Jose, California on 7 Feb 1966. It was imported to Australia in 2010 and I bought it a week after it arrived in the country. The car even arrived with the original pink slip and several US Nationals Parks passes. The car was purchased in the US from the same family who bought the car originally. It is an excellent example of the classic icon."
