The Saleen Extreme model engine was upgraded from the regular S-281 model with a Saleen spec; forged steel crankshaft, forged steel connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, forged aluminum cylinder heads, Saleen high performance valve springs, and special Saleen cam shafts. All that adds up to 425hp at 6000rpm and 440ft-lb of torque at 4000rpm.

On the firewall is this Saleen ID tag. It shows a manufacture date of 7/02, an ID# of 02-0053, the last part of the VIN, and the S-281E model.

Beryllium 2002 Mustang Saleen S281-SC Supercharged convertible with a black interior. Beryllium was a Saleen special paint that could be ordered with their factory Mustang conversions. It was expensive because the entire car had to be stripped before painted.
