Saleen took a GT and added Saleen urethane front fascia, side skirts, rear fascia, and rear wing. It was given a Racecraft suspension which includes Saleen; variable rate front and rear Springs, front struts and bushings, rear shocks, front sway bar and pivot bushings, five spoke wheels, a front and rear high performance wheel alignment, and a tuned chassis. To improve engine performance, Saleen added mufflers, a performance exhaust system, and gave it a performance calibration.

The owner tells us, "The Saleen that you are looking has had 1 owner, lady-owned, locally serviced, all paperwork, owners manuals from Saleen, and 2-sets of wheels including the factory Saleen wheels it came with. The dark Laser Red paint in very clean through-out. All original decals are in great shape, only a couple of small paint ships have been touched up. The interior; beautiful black leather, power windows, power door locks, air conditioning, CD, and tilt. It runs and drives like it should! If you are looking for an un-molested Saleen, here it is!"

The Saleen serial number is #83B. Christopher tells us more, "This Mustang is a former Budget Rental car. Saleen signed a deal with the rental company to produce a very limited number of Saleens in 1997 and 1998. 88 were produced in '97 while only 30 were in 1998. I bought mine in fall of 1998 and she's a part of the family now. I had a bad episode with NOS one night and toasted the motor. I since have bought a brand new block bored .030 over, brand new trick flow intake and heads, Vortech SQ supercharger, Comp Cams 278ah, forged internals, methanol injection, aluminum driveshaft, Fluidyne radiator, 3.73g. suspension upgrades, and few more upgrades. Everything has been handled by Bud Anderson (engine builderinstaller)."

Extreme Rainbow is a $11,000+ special color that Saleen offered many years. The paint process was 4-coats dark blue, color sanded, 3-coats of Extreme Rainbow, color sanded again, followed by an additional 2-coats of Extreme Rainbow, and then 4-coats of urethane clear. The finish then received a final wet-sand by hand and polishing, resulting in the exceptional show quality finish achieved. This is Saleen factory #173 vehicle for 1997. Besides the unusual paint, this one was also ordered with a Supercharger!

It is signed by Steve Saleen under the trunk lid. Number 68 of 208 Saleens produced in 1998. Garaged and has less than 14,000 original miles. I am the second owner, purchased by me in 2000."

It has the Saleen body kit and graphics as well as a 4.6L engine with a supercharger added. The 1998 S-281 didn't come from the Saleen with a supercharger. Only the Saleen S-351, SR, and SA-15 came with the supercharger in 1998.
