(5 photos of a 1968 Dark Green Mustang Shelby GT-500KR Convertible) I just found this photo that I took a year ago of a Dark Green 1968 Mustang Shelby GT500 King of the Road convertible with 10 spoke Shelby wheels, white side stripes, Shelby front fascia with fog lamps, side scoops, rear wing, vented hood, and 428ci super jet V8 engine. (6 photos of a 1968 Lime Gold Mustang GT California Special Hardtop) This Lime Gold 1968 Mustang GT California Special with black vinyl roof was at the 2010 Mustang Roundup car show held in Bellevue, Washington. This GT/CS was ordered with the GT option which included dual exhaust with quad exhaust tips, argent slotted steel wheels with GT center caps, and heavy duty front and rear spring. All other standard 1968 GT options were not used including the GT gas cap which probably could be ordered separately.

(5 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang Golden Nugget Special Hardtop) This is an authentic 1968 Limited Edition 'Gold Nugget Special'
promotional car for the Pacific Northwest dealerships. One of only 481
actually produced of the scheduled 525 to be offered through the
promotion. The Golden Nugget Mustang has a DSO# 741111 on the door
data plate, with the 1111 indicating the Special Order Unit as such.
It was a promotion that was offered at no additional charge, however
it could not be ordered. According to the promotion details and first
hand information from an original owner, each Ford Dealership in the
Pacific Northwest was to receive one Gold Nugget Special and the first
person who came in wanting to by it was the lucky person. It was sold
with a custom commemorative dash plaque with the original purchaser's
name and a simulated gold nugget affixed. All of the Gold Nugget
Mustangs were only available in the Coupe model, with Sunlit Gold
exterior paint, hood blackout stripes, and a black vinyl top with
either black or nugget gold interior. They were produced with varying
combinations of engines, transmissions and other available options.
This particular Gold Nugget Mustang has the original 200ci inline 6cyl
engine and 3spd manual transmission. It runs and drives excellent and
was driven on a 1200 mile road trip earlier this year with no issues.
It is currently driven several times a month and never has any issues
starting right up. It is virtually a rust free car and besides needing
paint it needs little else to be a great driver/show car. The interior
is in nearly perfect condition. Here is your chance to get a truely
limited production Mustang. There is a Gold Nugget Registry that has
been formed and to date less than two dozen have been confirmed to
still be in existence with less than a dozen actually registered. The
well known California Special had a production run of more than 4100
being built. The Gold Nugget Special was equal to approximately 10% of
that total making it a more unique and rare Mustang than the
California Special. I am asking 6250.00 and I may consider partial
trades. If you're looking for something different and special, this is
the Mustang for you. Feel free to email or call any time. Thanks, Jeff

(22 photos of a 1968 Mustang Rainbow Of Colors Advertisement) Here is a key Ford newspaper advertisement for the West 1968-69 Rainbow of Colors promotional sale which allowed new Mustang owners choices in "wild" special order colors as well as sporty upgrades. It is the earliest newspaper advertisement we have found, and it appears to be one created by Ford which allows participating dealers to add their name and address to the bottom. The advertisement doesn't give much information other than that there are 10 special colors, limited to 500 Mustangs, and only offered in the West. We think that due to the success of this promotion, some dealerships extended it beyond 500 Mustangs, included more than 10 colors, and extended the promotion into 1969. We found this advertisement in the February 14th, 1968 edition of the Ukiah Daily Journal of Ukiah, California.

(7 photos of a 1968 Mustang Dixie Special Hardtop Advertisement) Ever hear about the Mississippi, Louisiana 1968 Dixie Special limited edition Mustang? Neither did we until we discovered this series of newspaper advertisements from several Mississippi and Louisiana dealerships between February 27th and March 29th of 1968. This ad was placed by Swartzfager Ford in the March 15th, 1968 edition of the Laurel Leader-Call in Laurel Mississippi. From this ad we see that the Dixie Special was a limited number of specially built Mustang, Fairlane hardtop, and Ford XL fastbacks for the Dixie area. From the other advertisements in this set we see that the Dixie Special included a special paint job, a Dixie Special license plate, and an emblem on every unit. It doesn't appear that just one color was used since this advertisement says
Special Colors. From the last ad we know that at least one was a light yellow and most of the ads state a Mustang hardtop. We also think the Dixie Special emblem is the 11 star badge with the Dixie Special lettering shown at the bottom of each ad. Probably 11 stars for each of the states in the original Confederate Union. Now the hunt is on to find one of these Mustangs!
Could this be one of them? The DSO, date, and special color matches. This ad shows some new 68 Ford cars on a car carrier. The two Mustangs on top look like GTs. They have the fog lights in the grille and C-stripes on their sides. It is interesting that they have the economy dog-dish style hub caps. Many of the 60s cars were ordered this way.
(6 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang Golden Nugget Special Hardtop) This is a Sunlit Gold 1968 Mustang Golden Nugget Special coupe. The Golden Nugget Mustangs came with the blackened hood louvers, black side C-stripes, and black interiors. They also came with a plaque on the dash with the owner's name. This one does not have the plaque.

(2 photos of a 1968 Wimbledon White Mustang GT NHRA Cobra Jet Fastback) This is one of 50 Wimbledon White Mustang GT Cobra Jet fastbacks factory built for racing at the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Winternationals in Los Angeles.
