(13 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang Convertible) Take a look at this Sunlit Gold 1968 Mustang convertible with full wheel covers, side C-stripes, louvered hood, and a C-code 289ci V8 engine. Why is the top up? It's Seattle weather.

(1 photo of a 1968 Black Mustang Hardtop Advertisement) "See the Man", Seattle Times newspaper Mustang ad for January 26th, 1968. The ad says, "Report to people who want to break away from the look-alike pack! Mustang! The one car on the road you can't mistake for any other. With a long, lean look all its own. With bucket seats, vinyl interior, wall-to-wall carpeting and floor-mounted stick shift - all standard. Mustang. It's really something else! See the man with better ideas.. your Ford Dealer."

(1 photo of a 1968 Shelby Convertible Advertisement) This is an advertisement for the 1968 Carroll Shelby's GT350/GT500 Cobra from the Friday, January 12th, 1968 edition of the Seattle Times newspaper. The dealership is Metke Ford east, across Lake Washington from Seattle in Bellevue Washington. Data for three 1967 Shelby's are shown in this add as well as five 1968 Mustangs, and one 1967 Mustang. Notice the last line of this add, "Home of the Shelby GT 500 & 350 and the new model "C". 1968 marked the first year Ford introduced its number one selling car in England to America, the Model C Cortina.

(6 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang Golden Nugget Special Hardtop Advertisement) Advertisement for the 1968 Seattle area Golden Nugget special Mustang we found in the January 26th, 1968 edition of the Seattle Times. We found several of these advertisements in the January and February issues of the Seattle Times newspaper to promote the 525 specially painted and optioned Mustangs. This advertisement says, "Exclusive for this area only! Specially ordered, specially painted Mustangs, each with a golden plaque for the dash panel bearing the customer's name. Sunlit gold color, with black vinyl top, black hood panels. Black stripe. Whitewalls. Wheel covers. Plus all the better ideas that make Mustang America's favorite, most imitated sports car. More Mustang than ever for '68." This ad also shows what the golden dash plate looks like (of course in black and white and in a different scale...) We think this advertisement was payed for by Ford since it has no local dealership listed, which may mean that the Golden Nugget Special promotion was a Ford promotion rather than a group of dealers. Another indication is the special order number of 1111 which appears on the door data tag of each car after the DSO code of 74 indicating the Seattle area. This 1111 code appears to be special since it was also used in 1966 for the 50 special limited edition Millionth Anniversary Mustangs.

(1 photo of a 1968 Medium Blue Mustang Shelby GT-500 Fastback Advertisement) Original advertisement showing a Medium Blue 1968 Shelby GT500 Mustang fastback. The ad says, Carroll Shelby's Cobra GT... for the person who wants everything in one car.

(1 photo of a 1968 Corporate Yellow Mustang Hardtop Advertisement) Only Mustang makes it happen! This is a 2 page Mustang magazine advertisement shows a Corporate Yellow hardtop with louvered hood and black stripes. The film strip across the top shows how owning a Mustang will change your life. Yep, this is definitely from the late 60's. The ad reads Turn yourself on, switch your style, and show a new face in the most exciting car on the American road! for '68, the great original comes in 3 versions - hardtop, fastback, convertible. With all the standards that make Mustang Mustang: bucket seats, floor-mounted stick, sports steering wheel, rich loop carpeting. And you can design your own luxury Mustang, sporty Mustang, practical Mustang... with better ideas like AM/FM Stereo Radio, air conditioning, SelectShift transmission, new 2-tone hood. Get hip to the great transformer: Mustang makes dull people interesting, interesting people absolutely fascinating! And only Mustang mades it happen! Check out an alternative version of this ad.

(1 photo of a 1968 Candy Apple Red Mustang GT Fastback Advertisement) Only Mustang makes it happen! This Mustang magazine advertisement shows what happens to you after you buy a Candyapple Red 1968 Mustang GT fastback. The advertisement reads, Sidney spent Sundays seashelling at the seashore. Then Sidney started digging the '68 Mustang - the great original. Dug the models: hardtop, fastback and convertible. Liked the low price, too, which left Sidney lots of clams to design his own Mustang, Sidney style. Now Sidney's making waves all over. Last week he saved 3 bathing beauties. (And they all could swim better than Sidney!). Check out another version of this ad.

(2 photos of a 1968 Beatnik Blue Mustang Rainbow Of Colors Fastback) Check out this "during restoration" photo of a 1968 Rainbow of Colors Mustang in the light blue special order paint. The 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotion offered Mustangs in a rainbow of special ordered paint colors and options for the West Coast. We have been calling this color Beatnik Blue after an advertisement we found on the promotion at a local dealership. Mike has been restoring it. He had it shipped from California with much of its original paint, Ford special order WT8095. We have other examples of this paint on our site, but this one matches the original. The original was non-metallic. WT8... were blue colors; if the second digit was less than 8, it was non-metallic, etc. This beautiful car is our Attitude Of The Week starting April 23, 2022. See the car's original condition in the next photo.

(5 photos of a 1968 Gold Mustang Shelby GT-500 Fastback) Gold 1968 Mustang Shelby GT-500 fastback with white rocker stripes. It has the big 428ci engine - characteristic of the GT-500. Those are Shelby custom 15-inch wheels that came with the 1968 Shelby.

(6 photos of a 1968 Mustang Territorial Special Hardtop Advertisement) Mustang Colt and Lady Mustang limited edition 1968 Mustang hardtop newspaper advertisement from Bill Marsh Ford of Newtown, Pennsylvania. We found this advertisement in the May 9th, 1968 edition of the Bucks County Courier Times of Levittown, Pennsylvania. It's a his and hers sale. Both Mustangs have names plates, numbered identification badges, bullet tip front fenders, and other upgrades. These special models appear to be mostly dealer added options and only offered at Marsh Ford. See the other photos of this set for more details.

(5 photos of a 1968 Passionate Pink Mustang Color Of The Month Hardtop) Here's a special one! It's a Passionate Pink 1968 Mustang hardtop. The Passionate Pink (repaint) is the original color - the black hood stripes and hood scoop were added by the owner. Why is it painted pink? Probably because it was part of a dealer sales promotion. Both the Rainbow of Colors and Color of the Month promotions included this shade of pink. Since the DSO is not LA or San Jose and it wasn't built in San Jose, it's not the Rainbow of Colors. This was built in Dearborn and has a DSO of Cleveland (322391) and delivered to Beasley Ford in Columbus Ohio (dealer 42C001).

(4 photos of a 1968 Purple Mustang Rainbow Of Colors Hardtop) Oh my, check out this 1968 Salt Lake City Rainbow of Colors Mustang hardtop in special order purple! The photo looks like a painting. Jayme owns this car and is getting ready for restoration. It has the optional J-code, 230hp, 302ci 4V V8 under the hood, GT side stripe, full wheel covers, parchment interior trim, C4 automatic transmission, and of course special purple paint. We have been looking for the purple paint that has been listed in ads for the Rainbow of Colors promotion, and this one shows it off. We think it is Ford special paint code WT9083 (see the door data tag photo for a non-faded view of this paint). This amazing car and great photo is our Attitude of the Week starting July 9th, 2022.

(3 photos of a 1968 Highland Green Mustang Bullitt Fastback) Replica of the 1968 Highland Green fastback GT 390ci V8 from the Steve McQueen movie Bullitt famous for its car chase through the streets of San Francisco. This Ford promotional photo has Steve's son Chad driving, and is our Attitude Of The Week for the week starting March 4th, 2012.

(4 photos of a 1968 Powerful Purple Mustang Rainbow Of Colors Fastback) Check out this restored Powerful Purple 1968 Rainbow of Colors fastback Mustang. It is being worked on by Mainly Muscle Cars of Washington. This car was originally sold in the Bozeman, Montana area so it is one of those rare Idaho/Montana 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotional Mustangs. This is also the first good example of this purple paint on a 1968 Rainbow of Colors Mustang. We think it is Ford special order paint WT9083.

(5 photos of a 1968 Candy Apple Red Mustang GT Fastback) Take a look at this red 1968 Mustang GT fastback. It has the GT fog lights, reflective C-stripe on the side, and aluminum GT wheels.

(10 photos of a 1968 Meadowlark Yellow Mustang Fastback) Meadowlark Yellow 1968 Mustang fastback with side reflecting C-stripes and louvered hood. The hood has pinstripes around the recessed louvered areas.

(10 photos of a 1968 Special Green Mustang Rainbow Of Colors Hardtop) Here is an unusual one. Its a special order 1968 Mustang hardtop which came with automatic transmission, power steering, sport tires, sport wheel covers, louvered hood, C-code 289ci V8 engine, black side stripe, and special order paint (WT7148). It was built in the San Jose plant but under special order number 3059 from Salt Lake City. We've confirmed that the Rainbow of Colors promotion also ran from Salt Lake City. We've been recently emailed of another special order green painted Mustang from the same special order number by Mike in Idaho. We think both of these cars were part of the Rainbow of Colors west coast promotion. WT7148 is a close match to WT7126 which was used in this promotion.

(9 photos of a 1968 Special Green Mustang Rainbow Of Colors Hardtop) Mike Taylor from Meridian, Idaho found this special order green painted 1968 hardtop parked in Billings, Montana, outside, under a canvas cover. It had been there for six years. Mike sent us photos of the car as he found it and a few of getting it home. Mike is starting to restore it. It is a special ordered car with a blank paint code and special order number 3059 from Salt Lake City.

What is interesting about this car is its special color. Mike's research shows it as Ford special order code WT7034 and was ordered with Andrew's 1968 Special Order Green Mustang of which we also have photos of. Andrew's car is a bluish green that Marti matched to WT7148 which is an almost exact match to WT7126. Both WT7034 and WT7126 has an historical use on 1968 and 69 Mustangs since it is two of 13 colors used for the West Coast Rainbow of Colors promotion. We've just confirmed that the Rainbow of Colors ran in the LA, San Jose, and Salt Lake City area.

(3 photos of a 1968 Mountain Green (Emerald Green) Other ) We think this is a Mountain Green (Mustang Emerald Green) 1968 Rocky Mountain Sportsman's Special Bronco. Little is known about this Ford Truck special model except that it was probably only in the Denver area; included the Bronco, F100 and F250; and came in Boulder Bronze (WT3833), Mountain Green (WT7819), and Sky Blue (WT8816). The reason we have a Bronco on a Mustang site is its color. The color is a match for the 1968, Color of the Month promotion for March commemorating Saint Patrick's Day.

(2 photos of a 1968 Madagascar Orange Mustang Rainbow Of Colors ) Josh sends us this photo of a car he just found, a 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotional Mustang hardtop in special order Madagascar Orange. It has the louvered hood option, side stripe, possibility a vinyl roof, and special order paint. The Rainbow of Colors promotion offered special paint on baseline and heavily optioned Mustangs in the California and Utah areas.
