In 1985, Ford's Dearborn facility shipped 140 Mustangs to the Saleen conversion facility in California. Steve Saleen, the founder of Saleen Autosport, struck a deal with Ford to sell and warranty his conversions through Ford dealerships. Saleen would cover the warranty for its conversion items. The 1985 Saleen Mustang had several modifications over the 1984 version, including bigger 225/60 tires, metallic brake pads, and a smoother decklid spoiler. The conversion only cost $4,195 over the stock Mustang.
