The 1986 Saleen Mustangs participated in Sports Card Club of America (SCCA) events. The 1986 Saleen model boasted several new features, including 16-inch wheels, a newly styled front airdam and decklid spoiler, a Hurst shifter, a new three-spoke steering wheel, GT bucket seats, Koni adjustable rear shocks, a Kenwood stereo, and a left foot dead pedal. While most of the converted vehicles were Mustang LX hatchbacks, eleven LX convertibles also received the Saleen conversion.
