Coupe

Convertible

In 1991, Mustang offered three different body styles and two packages of options. The body styles were the notchback 2 door coupe, the 3 door hatchback, and the convertible. The coupe only had the basic LX option, while the hatchback and convertible had both the LX and the sporty GT options. A new feature in 1991 was the 16x7 inch, 5 spoke, aluminum wheels that were very popular. Many owners of older Mustangs bought these wheels to upgrade their cars. The 4 cylinder base engine got more power, up to 105hp, by adding another spark plug to each cylinder, making it 8 in total. Other changes included a new convertible top that fit more flush with the body and an option for a graphic equalizer. Yellow was not available as a color in 1991, but it came back in 1993.

Mustang GT
The 1991 Mustang GT received the same new 5 spoke, 16 inch, aluminum wheels as the 1991 5.0 LX. These wheels were so popular, that many older owners of Mustangs, bought them. The GT and LX convertible also received the new convertible top which when opened, fit more flush with the body. Specific for the 1991 GT was the 1990 GT carryover items such as solid grille with center mounted Ford emblem; front, side and rear aerodynamic body skirts with integrated fog lamps; and 225hp, 5.0L, High Output, V8 engine.

Saleen Mustang
The 1991 Saleen Mustang received a Racecraft suspension system, Pioneer AM/FM cassette stereo with 6 speakers, American Racing 16 inch rims with 225/50ZR-16 XP-2000Z tires, Saleen aerodynamic body kit, 170 mph speedometer, leather-covered shift knob, Hurst quick-ratio shifter, sport seats, and a Saleen Mustang drivers jacket. The Racecraft suspension included variable rate coil springs, Monroe Formula GP gas shocks, custom strut bearings, and urethane sway bar. See our 1991 Saleen Data Explorer for more information.
