In 1993, the Mustang offered three packages: the base LX (240A), the LX 5.0L (245A) with a V8 engine, and the GT (249A) with air conditioning, a cargo tie down net, floor mats, and optional two-tone paint. Customers could choose from three body styles: the notchback coupe, the hatchback, or the convertible. Two special Feature convertibles were also available in Canary Yellow or Oxford White, similar to the 1992 Vibrant Red one. However, the horsepower ratings dropped for all models due to the extra loads of smog, alternator, air conditioning, and the cooling fan, as well as the re-rating of the changes over the last few years. The most exciting news in 1993 was the launch of the SVT Mustang Cobra, a high performance model built by Ford's Special Vehicle team. The SVT Cobra had a distinctive body style, improved handling, and 235 horsepower.

GT Options Package
The 1993 Mustang GT came with the big 5.0L HO V8 engine, air conditioning, a cargo tie down net, floor mats, and optional two-tone paint. The 1993 Mustang GT only came in the hatchback and convertible body styles. The GT did not come in the 2-door sedan body style. Compared to the base level LX, the Mustang GT front upper grille was closed, fog lamps installed under the front bumper, side scoops, and Mustang GT embossed into the rocker panels.

Cobra
1993 saw the introduction of the Mustang Cobra built by Ford's Special Vehicle team (SVT). The SVT Cobra had a modified body panels, better handling, and 235 horsepower. The front grille is similar to the GT, but the top has an opening with a horse emblem and the lower has removed side scoops. The rear was a one piece design with exhaust cutouts and a special trunk lid spoiler. A special Cobra R model was built for racing in 1993. See our 1993 SVT Cobra Data Explorer for more information.

Cobra R
Only 107 Limited Edition SVT Cobra R Mustangs were built in 1993. They were all Vibrant Red hatchbacks. They were stripped of their rear seats, air conditioning, and sound systems. This made them lighter for racing. They had suspension upgrades and 3-spoke special wheels to be used on the 1994 Mustang GT. See our 1993 SVT Cobra Data Explorer for more information.

Saleen
In 1993, Saleen Autosport continued to modify Mustang LX models directly from the Ford Dearborn plant as instructed by Ford Dealers. The number of conversions were up over 1992. There were a couple of special models too. The SC returned with the higher output normally aspirated 5.0L engine. A few Vortech supercharged SA-10 models were created to commemorate Saleen's 10th year of Mustang conversions. Each SA-10 was painted black with yellow accents. Limited Edition LX 5.0L Feature Car
There were 3003 Special Limited Edition "Feature" LX 5.0L convertibles produced in 1993. A quantity of 1503 were painted exclusive Canary Yellow with either a black or white interior and top combination and chrome wheels. Another 1500 were painted Vibrant White with a white interior and top combination and white wheels. These cars had rear decklid spoilers and 16-inch 5-spoke Pony wheels. The front seat headrests and floor mats have a Pony embroidered on them.

SSP Police Package
The Special Service Package (SSP) was a factory optioned Police Car. Ford offered this package on the Mustang from 1982 through 1993. It was built upon a LX 5.0L Notchback with either the 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The package added; certified calibrated 0 to 160 mph speedometer, front lower radiator air deflector, engine oil cooler, reinforced front floor pans, aircraft-type radiator and heater hose clamps, automatic transmission oil cooler, heater hose inlet restrictor, full-size spare tire, P216/65R15 all season Goodyear Eagle GT tires, 15x7" 10-hole cast aluminum wheels, and single key locking system.
