The first Blue Mustang was introduced the first year of Mustang production in 1964. Five shades of blue were introduced in 1964: Guardsman Blue, Caspian Blue, Skylight Blue, Tropical Turquoise, and Twilight Turquoise. Historically there has been the most number of Blue Mustang colors offered than any other color. There were 194 offerings of Blue in all 60 production years of the Mustang. Follow this link to see photos of all Blue Mustangs on this site.

Five shades of blue are available now on the 2021 Mustang: a steel gray Infinite Blue, a new formulation of Grabber Blue, a bright Velocity Blue, a dark rich Performance Blue, and the all new Antimatter Blue. Not all blues are available on all 2021 Mustang models/option-groups.

Three new shades of blue are available for the 2022 Mustang: a very light metallic Iced Blue, a dark metallic Atlas Blue, and an exclusive light metallic Brittany Blue.

Starting in 1969 with the Shelby Mustang and then becoming available on the regular Mustang lineup in 1970, Grabber Blue paint was a popular sport model color. In 1974, the only Grabber paint option offered was a Light Grabber Blue, but this time on the new Mustang II body style. Grabber Blue came back in 2010-2014.

The first Blue Glow was offered in 1973, one year after other glow paint were offered as an option for extra charge. Silver Blue Glow was made available as the only glow color in 1975 and joined Tan Glow in 1976. The final blue glow color was offered in 1979, as Medium Blue Glow. Early glow paints faded easily in the sun due to the lack of good paint protectants. See our special Glow Paint page for more information on all glow Mustang paints available.

Blue Featured Mustangs

There were several blue featured Mustang special models. These models where exclusively blue or featured special blue paint.

Blue and white 1965-68 Player's Mustang

The blue and white Mustang Player's special edition hardtop was given out as a prize by Player's tobacco company in Canada between 1965 and 1968. These Mustangs were painted blue and white to match the Player's cigarette package. All models were hardtops, had this special blue and white exterior paint, 200ci 6-cylinder engine, full wheel covers, and an AM radio. The promotion was run as Mustang-A-Week contests in many Providences in Canada. We are unsure which Ford blue paint was used on these Mustangs; but it may have been the darker blue Mustang colors of Caspian Blue in 1965, Nightmist Blue in 1966 and 1967, and Presidential Blue in 1968.

Sapphire Blue 1966 Shelby GT350

Sapphire Blue was available in 1966 as a standard Mustang Shelby GT350 color although it could be ordered as a special color on the standard Mustang. Sapphire Blue was one of five colors available on the 1966 Shelby GT 350, the others were Raven Black, Wimbledon White, Ivy Green, and Candy Apple Red.

Columbine Blue 1966 and 1967 High Country Special

Columbine Blue was one of three special colors for the Colorado area High Country Special promotional Mustang for 1966 and 1967. The High Country Special had several sport options including a 6 cylinder or V8 engine, wire or regular wheels, and a special blue High Country Special fender badge. The other two special colors were Aspen Gold and Timberline Green.

Diamond Blue 1967 Special Order Paint Mustang

Diamond Blue a common special order paint in 1967. Some say that 1967 was the year with the most colors available for a Mustang, possibility more than 40 colors. See our list of all 1967 colors in our 1967 Mustang Data Explorer.

Vail Blue and Winter Park Turquoise 1967 Ski Country Special

Vail Blue and Winter Park Turquoise were two of five special colors for the Denver area 1967 Ski Country Special which featured ski racks, snow tires, equalock rear axle, and a Ski Country Special decklid medallion. The 1967 Ski Country Special was a winter version of the Denver 1967 High Country Special. Other colors for the Ski Country Special included Aspen Red, Brechenridge Yellow, and Loveland Green. See our 1967 data explorer to see the all the Ski Country Special colors first compiled by MustangAttitude.com. It is interesting to note that Vail Blue was first used on the 1965 Corvette as Nassau Blue and Winter Park Turquoise was first used on the 1964 Mustang as Pagoda Green.

1967 Blue Bonnet Special

Bonnet Blue was used on a 1967 territorial promotional Mustang called the Blue Bonnet special for the Texas area. It could be ordered with several options but all came with a Lone Star Limited badge in the shape of Texas.

Dark Blue 1967 Shelby Mustang

Dark Blue was Shelby's special name for the standard Nightmist Blue offerd in 1967 as a standard Mustang. Dark Blue was one of 10 colors offered on 1967 Shelby Mustangs. All 1967 Shelby's were made from Mustangs from the San Jose plant and pre-painted with a Risished-Mason paint (in this case R-M A-1780 for Dark Blue), later Shelby Mustangs were painted with Ditzler paints.

Sierra Blue

Robin Egg Blue
1968-69 Rainbow of Colors Mustang

Sierra Blue was one of two special blue colors for the 1968 and 1969 Rainbow of Colors west coast Mustang promotion. The Rainbow of Colors promotion allowed new Mustang owners to order a car in one of 13 special factory of colors which represented the colors in the rainbow. Some of these colors were Madagascar Orange, Whipped Cream, Spanish Gold, Dandelion Yellow, Hot Pink, Caribbean Coral, Forest Green, Sierra Blue, and Moss Green. See our 1968 data explorer to see what all 13 colors looked like. Sierra Blue is Ford special paint WT8002 which is also used by Pepsi.

Robin Egg Blue is a color we made up and assigned to the light blue green WT8095 special order blue paint used in the Rainbow of Colors promotion. At this time we don't know the 1968-69 Rainbow of Color's promotional name for this color, nor have we found an example of the color on a Mustang.

Teal metallic 1993 SVT Cobra

In 1993, Teal metallic was reserved only for the introduction of the SVT Cobra. In 1994, Teal metallic was a standard exterior paint color for the new bodystyle of the Mustang. The 1993 SVT Cobra only came in three colors: Vibrant Red, Teal metallic blue, and Black; and had a modified body style, better handling, and 235 horsepower.

Sapphire Blue 1995 Mustang GT

Sapphire Blue was one of two colors in 1995 reserved only for the Mustang GT coupe or convertible. There was only one other blue paint in 1995 called Teal Blue which was much lighter. In 1995, the other GT only color was Canary Yellow.

Azure Blue 2003 & 2004 Mach 1 Coupe

The 2003 Mach 1 didn't only come in blue, but Azure Blue was introduced in 2003 only for the comeback of the Mach 1. Azure Blue was also limited to only the Mach 1 in 2004, but it too came in other colors. This new Mach1 had a special 4.6L engine which used heads from the SVT and a DOHC cam from Ford's 5.4L Triton V8. This boosted horsepower from the stock 4.6L V8 in the GT from 260hp to 305hp and torque from 302ft-lb to 320ft-lb. The Mach-1 also had a distinct stripe and trim package.

Kona Blue 2015 50th Anniversary Mustang GT

Kona Blue is an exclusive color for the 50th Anniversary Mustang GT although it was a standard color for the 2010-2012 model year. Another exclusive color is Wimbledon White. The limited Edition Mustang GT coupe has the performance pack, 50th Anniversary badges, extra exterior chrome, upgraded interior, and cool layered glass rear-quarter "louvered" windows.

Grabber Blue 2017 Black Shadow Edition Mustang

Grabber Blue along with Platinum White, Race Red, or Triple Yellow paint are the only colors available on the 2017, European, Black Shadow Edition fastback. It features; a black Pony emblem for the GT grille, exclusive black 19-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels, dissolve-effect black stripes along the prominent bonnet bulge ridges and across the body-side between the lower wheel arches, and black 5.0-litre badges on the front wings.

Performance Blue 2019-2021 Shelby Mustang

Performance Blue is an exclusive color for the 2019 Shelby GT350, the 2020 Shelby GT350 and GT500 and the 2021 GT500. All the other colors of the 2019-2021 Mustang are also available for the Shelby GT350 and GT500 including two other blue colors: a lighter Velocity Blue and the very dark Kona Blue. New for 2021 is the generally available Antimatter Blue. But this exclusive Shelby Mustang color is also known as Ford Performance Blue.

Brittany Blue 2022 Heritage Edition Shelby Mustang

Brittany Blue metallic is an exclusive color for the 2022, 55th Anniversary, Heritage Edition, Shelby GT500. This special paint has been color matched to the original 1967 Brittany Blue GT500 paint color.
